All the studio 5 teachers gathered money and ordered 8 slices of pepperoni pizza. Ms.Amanda paid the most by paying 200,000 VND and the rest of the teachers paid each 30,000 VND. However, Ms.Amanda just ate dinner, so she is not hungry at all. Ms.Taryn ate a piece of salad before, so she is a little bit hungry. Ms.Suzanne hates pepperoni and Mr.Pug didn't eat anything for an entire day and he is starving to death. How would they split the pizza and eat it without any consequences?
I think you should split the pizza depending on how hungry you are because then, everybody would be all full and there would be less consequences about eating it. For example, if they split the pizza depending on how much you paid for it, it would be not efficient idea because there would be no point for Ms.Amanda to eat most of the pizza even though she paid the most due to being full after eating dinner. Thus, the other teachers will complain being really hungry. Therefore, I think they need to split the pizza depending on how hungry they are.
Mr.Pug: 4 Pizzas
Ms.Amanda: 1 Pizza
Ms.Taryn: 2 Pizzas
Ms.Suzanne: 1 Pizza
What were you trying to Find Out?
The goal for this unit was to figure out what is the most effective way to split the pizza fairly and support why do I think about it because we want to understand how does sharing objects with other people affect their emotions, personalities and point of views and how can we mentally share it fairly and efficiently.
What did you Discover?
I discovered that in this case, it would be the most efficient way to share the pizza if you split it depending on how hungry you are because if the person who paid the most money eats most of the pizza even though they're not hungry, it would be not fair for people who is really starving because for that person, there's no point for him or her to eat the pizza.
What Surprised you?
Something that really surprised me was that math could be also logical and you need to use it if you want to do something as a community efficiently by treating others equally thinking logically. For example, if somebody is so hungry that they can't hold it anymore, would you want to let them suffer just because you paid the most for the food? I definitely would not.
What were you good at?
From this unit, I learned about myself that I care about other people and I can work in a group efficiently by using our own resources to earn some and share them fairly with others to create greater relationships. For example, in this problem, Mr.Pug was starving to death, so I thought for a second, saving a human life more important than your money? Then, I realized he is one of the best teachers around this school and without him, we can't form studio 5, so I have decided to feed Mr.Pug more than anybody else.
What do I still need to Practice
However, I think I need to still practice to give examples of how did I make up this opinion because I did give some reason of why is this my answer, but some people didn't believe me due to not sharing how I calculated this, so next time, I should justify my claim by showing my calculations.
What do I want to know now?
This unit was really interesting, so this time, I want to know how will you share the pizza if all of the teachers are starving to death and Ms.Amanda paid most for the pizza once again because at this situation, money might influence sharing the pizza, but at the same time, everybody is starving to death, so I think this problem could be more serious business.
For conclusion, it was a good experience to learn how math influence logic.
